TODAY'S HIGHLIGHT

Today's highlight was the supermarket delivery.  The shopping is left on the doorstep and except for chilled items we  put it in the outside spare bedroom and use that as a store cupboard.  In this "ten day's" order was some lamb shoulder chops so the next thing to do was to trim them up and make a large casserole.  Tomorrow we will have the casserole and the rest will be frozen in "meals for 2" size packs.  We still have a couple of pieces of steak left from our butcher's order at the start of lockdown and one of the two bacon hocks for soup.

One item we have been eating more of during lockdown is eggs either scrambled, poached, as french toast or fried or in baking.

  1. Delivery click and collect, or an actual visit, food is the necessity we rely on, I am so thankful for each way, and if I do a visit, the safety precautions and regulations are wonderful, I do feel safe at our local supermarket. Leaving things to stay clear for 3 days might be the most sensible way to go. Just think, if we lived in the remote part of Russia, it would all be frozen solid after an hour or so!!!

    1. We thought about going to New World yesterday for a couple of items we were not able to order online but there was a long queue so we decided we could wait a bit longer. Glad you feel safe in your local. Yes, cold is all dependant on what one is used to.

  2. Having prepared meals in the freezer is a very handy thing to have :)
I ventured out alone today, for the first time - and discovered I still knew how to drive!

  3. Eggs are still scarce in the shops here. Luckily there's a lady who lives in the village who sells free-range eggs.

    1. I usually buy free range eggs from the market but with that closed have been getting them with my grocery order (boxes of 18) and been pleased with them.

  4. We haven't been able to register for online shopping...too many people already on the list!
I am ok with the supermarkets here...most of them anyway, not all. Our usual one asks for lone shoppers only and most wear gloves and a scarf or mask.
I go with a list, but it is good to be able to not get bananas for example, if they are all green..or other veg if they look tired and battered. Ordering online means no initiative!!

    1. It is getting easier now yo get a delivery slot. More people doing their own shopping. New world phone if any query or something not available. If one shops it is lone shoppers.

  5. Sounds like a carnivore's list, for sure! I have still not used online shopping and yesterday I went to three different stores and found everything I wished for. I get there early and there is hardly another person in the store, and we wear our masks, dutifully sanitize our hands, follow the arrows, and maintain our distance. What obedient Pavlovians we have become!
