DAY 41 LOCKDOWN

For the second day in a row New Zealand had no deaths from or new cases of Covid 19.  Of course, this does not mean that there will not be more in the future but it is a good sign.  We are waiting to hear on Thursday what the next stage will be and when it will start.  There is a suggestion that we could join Australia in a large bubble as far as travel is concerned.

On the weather front we started with a fine day but have had a couple of good showers and now the sun is shining again.  I much prefer this to a totally wet day.  I realise we desperately need rain but do not like days of damp.

We have had a leg of lamb in the freezer for a while so we got it out of the freezer a couple of days ago and today had a delicious roast lamb with lots and lots of vegetables and gravy.  Yum.  This Lockdown is pretty good really.

  1. Rain last night, rain most of today with some thunder thrown in for excitement. The garden so needed it all, so no rubbish to the transfer station, I draw the line at getting soaked just to empty some bags into the pit, or the glass bin. No recycling as such, all together apart from garden waste. Two days, are we winning?

    1. I hope we are winning but think it is too early to say. We still have recycling collections here. You are getting out more than us or would have if it hadn't rained.

  2. Wow, good on you New Zealand. We have so many people that don't care about anyone else so I am expecting things will get bad.

    1. There are some of those here. People tend to dob them in.

  3. NZ seems to have handled the virus better than most. It's still claiming lots of lives in Europe. I had Lamb last night too. I BBQ's a whole breast of Lamb. No quite a gigot, but I love the flavour of the breast.

    1. Known as "flap" here it is often boned, stuffed, rolled and roasted. I presume yours would have been done like spareribs.

  4. Good to read that there have been no new deaths two days in a row in NZ. Our state gov. has stated that certain businesses are allowed to reopen beginning next week. The problem is that not all Californians are wearing masks when out in public. We may see a spike in cases come June.

    1. Doug has been out a couple of times but says there weren't many masks. I am going to order some.

  5. Bravo Jacinda, and all of you downunder. A bubble with Australia would be excellent right now. I can imagine that many will want to travel either way to see family and it will make you all feel a little freer

    1. Yes, it should be good as long as it is kept under control I both places.

  6. Now I have a craving for roast lamb - with veggies, gravy and mint sauce! Have to see if I can twist the arm of our grocery shopper (son!) :)

    2. It is one of the great mysteries to me that every spring the internet is filled with pictures of newborn lambs, they appear on the television news, people go quite daffy over them - and then we kill them and eat them. And there's that whole Lamb of God thing too......didn't we also kill him?

    3. Are you vegetarian? You have a point there. I still enjoy meat although we don't eat a lot. Yesterday we just had a little meat with eight vegetables.

    4. I am not a hundred percent vegetarian but we have given up red meat entirely, and eat more seafood and fish than any meat at all. If I were younger I think I could make the transition entirely, and would do so. As it is now we have vegetarian meals three or four days a week.

    5. We eat a lot of fish and are eating more beef during lockdown as we got an order from the butcher. The leg of lamb had been in the freezer for nearly a year. As I get older I find there are foods that do not agree and pulses are a problem which makes finding protein more difficult otherwise I think we would eat even less meat.

  7. I haven't had lamb in a long time, we find it a bit expensive but it's good for a treat. I must say I'm amazed how much cheaper meat in general seems to be in the supermarkets, we've managed to get some nice pieces of fillet steak at good prices.

    1. That's interesting. I haven't noticed it any cheaper but then I bought from a butcher.
