The main story in our local paper this morning is that it is estimated there have been 20% fewer deaths in the country during Covid 19. Of course, here in New Zealand, it has been winter and there are usually deaths from influenza and other respiratory illnesses.
I don't know whether it has been the same in other countries but obviously everyone going into isolation or Lockdown has kept people safe from other illnesses.
Another story that appeared in the last couple of days was a ewe giving birth to five delightful spotted lambs. I took this screenshot from a video so hope it is o.k.
Today has been much cooler but we have had some rain - most of it when I decided to go out for a walk. Actually, I turned back before I got to the halfway mark as the rain and wind was so strong I had trouble standing. Of course, once I got home the rain stopped. C'est la vie.
Not very often that you see so many lambs born to one ewe - poor mama sheep trying to feed them all!
ReplyDeleteShe, obviously, needs help.
DeleteBlimey; I bet that ewe had a shock!
ReplyDeleteShe had quads last year and they thought it was the same this year and then another one "popped out".
DeleteThat's really interesting about the death rate. Sooner or later it has to catch up of course since we all will die.
ReplyDeleteYes, so many places have had far higher death rates with Covid 19 but, as you say, death catches up with us all.
DeleteBecause many people are working from home now, the car insurance companies are giving us a rebate on our premiums. During the very dark days here in the spring, there was very little traffic and cities looked like ghost towns. No driving, no accidents, less death. Closing bars might have also saved some lives.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough I have just read in today's paper that we had the same number of deaths on the roads here in Northland although the rest of the country had fewer deaths.
DeleteOf course, there were no visitors allowed into Rest Homes and everyone was staying home and taking extreme hygiene measures.
