A couple of nights ago on "Seven Sharp" a local current affairs programme there was a local story. An 81 year old lady was mowing her lawn in Kamo, the next suburb to us and the one where I used to live, when a young man stopped his car and offered to do it for her.
She turned him down at first but then accepted and said he did a wonderful job. Last night the young man had been found. It turned out it was his 20th birthday and he had spent a large part of the day at the hospital as he had managed to put a staple in his finger at work. It was a busy day at A. & E. so he had to wait while more urgent cases were seen to. Later he looked at Facebook and discovered that they were looking for the man who had mowed the lawn.
He said that, on the day in question, he and his brother had just mowed the grass at their family cemetery and was on his way to his mother's to mow her lawns when he noticed this lady mowing her lawn. He said it was a very hot day so he turned around and went back to offer to mow it for her.
He was a lovely young man but it is sad that something like this makes headline news
Good for him. I think it's nice that he got mentioned; it might encourage others to do the same.
ReplyDeleteI think it is good that he got mentioned but sad that it is unusual.
DeleteNice to hear a story like that, though I'm sure there are lots of other good deeds that go unnoticed. My next-door neighbour has taken it upon himself to cut the grass in all the communal areas in our row.
ReplyDeleteYes, I am sure there are many other cases but it is good to hear a happy story for a change.
DeleteNow that is a story which I reckon should hit the headlines. It gives us all a happy buzz. We have a news segment at the end of the usual dismal stuff on one our channels called the good news. It doesn't have much to report
ReplyDeleteNow that is sad.
DeleteI was so glad he was found, that is almost unusual to find a stranger helping in such a wonderful way.
ReplyDeleteYes, neighnours, friends but not total strangers.
DeleteThe problem seems to be that one is immediately suspicious of a kind offer such as this from a stranger. Is it genuine or are they looking to size up the house for a return visit to burglarize it? I would gladly help anyone, but I doubt that I would walk up unannounced to an old lady for fear that she might call the police!
ReplyDeleteOh, the kindness of strangers! That was lovely that he got noticed and people heard about his good deed. He is an excellent example for others to follow.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be marvelous if more people were so kind?
